Abrar ul Haq to make singing debut in Bollywood

Pakistani king of Punjabi music, Abrar ul Haq is all set to make his singing debut in India with a Punjabi film, ‘Ishq Mera Religion.’ The singer, who is known for his traditional sweet folk songs and vocals, will lend his voice for two songs in the movie.

In an interview to Daily Express, Pakistani lyricist S M Sadiq has said that,

“The reason why we have gotten Abrar on board as playback singer is because he has the best folk voice in the country, which is popular among listeners of all ages. The two songs that he has recorded are sure to be quite popular among the audiences.”

Apart from Abrar ul Haq, the legendry singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has also lended his vocals for two songs in ‘Ishq Mera Religion.’

This is not the first time that the lyrcist S M Sadiq is wrking with Pakistani singers for Indian films, earlier, he also recorded tracks with Arif Lohar and Shaukat Ali.

Junaid Khan to play Mahira’s husband in Bin Roye

Singer turned actor Junaid Khan has revealed that he will be playing the role of Mahira Khan’s husband in an upcoming Momina Duraid’s film, Bin Roye. The film which is scheduled to release on Eid ul Fitr, features Humayoun Saeed and Mahira Khan in leading roles.

“I am playing the role of Mahira Khan’s husband in the film. My character (Safeer) is more elaborated in the TV serial than the film. So, it’s not a film debut as I am still waiting for the right script,” said Junaid Khan in an interview to Express Tribune. “I won’t call it a film debut, it’s a guest appearance. Bin Roye Ansoo is actually a TV serial and a feature film” added Khan.

Bin Roye is a romantic drama which is based on an Urdu novel “Bin Roye Aansoo” by writer Farhat Ishtiaq of Humsafar fame. It is directed by Haissam Hussain, who has won Lux Style Award for his dramas Daastan and Durr-e-Shahwar.

In an interview to Instep magazine, Mahira expressed that, “It’s a full blown feature film. I lovecommercialcinema. I like watching Ram Leela. I like my dance and song. And I have danced in Bin Roye.”

Fawad Khan to play Virat Kholi in Bollywood movie MS Dhoni

Acclaimed Pakistani actor in Bollywood, Fawad Khan is expected to play the role of Indian star batsman Virat Kholi in an upcoming Bollywood movie ‘MS Dhoni.’ The movie is claimed to be based on the story of the Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s dramatic journey and is slated for release on 22 October 2015. 

While an Indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput is confirmed to play the role of MS Dhoni, Fawad Khan is expected to play the role of Virat Kholi, a friend and fellow member of MS Dhoni in Indian cricket team.

When contacted by an  Indian newspaper, the film director Neeraj Pandey said that he was not at liberty to make any comment. “I have signed a non-disclosure agreement and am not allowed to say anything,” he said.

Recently, Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan has singed a couple of Bollywood movies for this year, including “Mr. Chalu” against Prianka Chopra and “Kapoor and Sons” against Alia Bhatt and Sidart Malhotra.

Shiv Sena threats, organisers cancelled Atif Aslam concert in Pune

Just yesterday, we reported that Indian extremist party Shiv Sena has threatened the organisers to cancel Pakistani rock star Atif Aslam’s concert in Pune. Now, the reports have arrived that the concert has been cancelled. “We are from the field of arts, we wanted to do it, but then the intention behind the cancellation is totally appropriate. So we shall always remain patriotic,” told the show organiser Sanjay Sathe to NDTV. “As Balasaheb has said ‘Be patriotic and put the nation first’, and thereby, at the larger level we had to cancel the show,” he added.

“Aslam is a Pakistani artist and we oppose his performance in Pune. The organiser better cancel it now, or else we won’t let the event happen,” threatened senior Shiv Sena leader from Pune, Ajay Bhosale.

“Since day one we have been opposing Pakistani artists and our stand always has been the same. Pakistan is attacking us from every corner. How can we welcome their artists?,” another Shiv Sena leader told to Indian newspapers.

Atif Aslam is not the first Pakistani artist who is threatened by Indian extremist party Shiv Sena, earlier, they have attacked Meekal Hasan Band’s press conference in Mumbai, they have protested against Pakistan Women Cricket Team during 2011 Cricket World Cup in India, they have threatened Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Veena Malik, and other celebrities.

Meera and Ali Saleem to make comeback with Pakistani movie Bad Boys

Ali Saleem aka Begum Nawazish Ali and veteran Lollywood actress Meera have decided to make comeback with an upcoming Pakistani movie Bad Boys. Ali Saleem, who last appeared on TV in an Indian show Big Boss season 4,  is making his comeback after more than three years. The movie will be a directed by an acclaimed director, Mr. Hassan Askari.

The movie is expected to feature some new actors along with Meera and Ali Saleem.

Hassan Askari has directed several films and won National Film Awards for his blockbuster movies, ‘Aag Kinara,’ ‘Khoon Paseena,’ and ‘Toofan.’

Bad Boys is slated to release on Eid ul Fitr with three other Pakistani movies. PAKISTANI SHORT FILM BAAT CHEET GOES TO CANNES!

Director Rayika Choudri’s short-film Baat Cheet is on its way to be screened at the 68th Cannes Film Festivalheld annually in the French city of Cannes.

The ten-minute film is written, produced and directed byRayika Choudri. Pakistani versatile actress Sarwat Gilani is in the leading role whereas Joshindar Chaggar also played a key role along with her. Brilliant actor and host Fahad Mirza, Wusatullah Khan and Hammad Hasan Askari as supporting actors.

This short thoughtful short film has previously won three gold awards at a Documentary & Short International Movie Awards 2015 in Indonesia held earlier this year. This short-film is an abstract version of a conversation taking place between two friends over tea.

Sarwat Gilani shared that she was extremely pleased with the news: “It’s always a pleasure to be recognized as a talented nation especially when the platform is the entire world. I am delighted that our film made it to Cannes…and most happy that it won three gold awards.”

Shiv Sena threatens Atif Aslam in India

Pakistani singer Atif Aslam, who is scheduled to perform in Indian city Pune on April 25, 2015, has been threatened by Hindu extremist religious party Shiv Sena. “Aslam is a Pakistani artist and we oppose his performance in Pune. The organiser better cancel it now, or else we won’t let the event happen,” threatened senior Shiv Sena leader from Pune, Ajay Bhosale.

Fawad Khan wins another Best Debut award in Bollywood

Indo-Pak heartthrob, Fawad Khan has won another best debut male award in Bollywood, beating Jackie Shroff’s son Tiger Shroff, Inaamulhaq and Tahir Raj Bhasin. He has won the ‘Best Male Debut Award’ at IBNLive Movie Awards.

Pakistani actor Fawad has received 48.54% of the total votes, followed by Inaamulhaq of Filmistaan with 40.58%.

Fawad Khan made his Bollywood debut with Sonam Kapoor in Khoobsurat. For his acting skills in the film, Fawad Khan was awarded several film awards in India, which included prestigious Filmfare and Masala Awards.

The actor is all set to do a couple of Bollywood movies this year, including “Mr. Chalu” against Prianka Chopra and “Kapoor and Sons” against Alia Bhatt and Sidart Malhotra,

Shiraz Uppal sings 3 Bahadur title track

Waadi Animations has announced the release of the official ‘3 Bahadur’ title track and music video. Pakistan’s first animated full-length super hero film, 3 Bahadur is set to release on May 22, 2015 across Pakistan.

The original soundtrack [OST] is produced, mixed, mastered and sung by acclaimed musician Shiraz Uppal at S.U Studios in Lahore. The lyrics for ‘ 3 Bahadur’ title track have been penned by Shakeel Sohail with Umair Hassan as the project assistant.

With Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Salman Iqbal and Jerjees Seja as the Executive Producers, the music video for 3 Bahadur title track has been directed by Husain Qaizar and Nadir Siddiqui with Vivian Xavier as the Director of Photography, Wasif Arshad as the producer, Adil Malik as the Associate Producer, set design by Pervaiz Ahmed and Javed Shamsi with Husain Qaizar as the editor.

Celebrities attended SHOLAY 3D premier in Karachi

The legendary cinematic miracle of Bollywood ‘SHOLAY’ is showcasing in cinemas across Pakistan. The movie was launched in 3D & 2D at a glitzy and glamorous premier event last night in Karachi. The premier was attended by the best new sensation Adnan Malik, his brother Saqib Malik, news-person Fahim Siddiqui, and some models and industrialists.

Mathira to do another item number in Pakistani movie

The bold Pakistani host turned model Mathira has never failed to disappoint her fans with experiments. She started with hosting, then jumped into modeling, then also tried singing, and now, dancing. Mathira is recording an item number dance performance for an upcoming Pakistani movie, ‘Blind Love.’

Earlier, Mathira had done an item number ‘Masti Main Doobi Raat Hai’ for Humayoun Saeed’s ‘Main Houn Shahid Afridi. Later, saying that she will now do the leading roles, she has refused to do an item number for Sahir Lodhi’s directorial debut movie ‘Mausam’ an year ago.

Mahira Khan joins Shahrukh Khan for Raees shoot

One of the most popular Pakistani actress, the gorgeous Mahira Khan has joined the king of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan and other cast of her debut Indian movie, Raees. Mahira is in India for 30 days schedule, during which, she will film the scenes in Mumbai and Gujarat.

After the huge success of Pakistani drama serial Humsafar in India, it’s leading actress Mahira Khan bagged her first Bollywood offer from producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani against actors Shahrukh Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Earlier, when  Shahrukh Khan first met Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, he said that, ‘She suited for the film a lot. I have met her, I have seen a small part of her television work and she is marvelous actress.’.

Along with Mahira and Shahrukh Khan, another Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui will also star in Raees. “Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are there in the film. Both of them are very accomplished actors. I think the cast is really wonderful,’ said SRK in an interview. He further added, ‘Now, I would have to excel and perform like them.’

Mahira Khan is playing a Muslim girl while Shahrukh Khan will be seen as Gujarati bootlegger. The film is set in the Muslim ghetto in Gujarat in 80s.

Wrong Number’ set to hit cinemas on Eid ul Fitr

Senior drama actor, director and producer, Yasir Nawaz is set to make his film directorial and production debut with ARY Films. They are producing an upcoming Pakistani movie, “Wrong Number’. Yasir Nawaz, Nida Yasir and Hassan Zia of YNH Films in collaboration with ARY Films have announced that the movie will hit cinemas on Eid ul Fitr. The movie feature veteran actor Javed Sheikh, Danish Taimoor, Sohai Ali Abro, Janita Asma, Danish Nawaz, Shafqat Cheema and Nadeem Jafri.

Directed by Yasir Nawaz and produced by YNH Films, Wrong Number will be a commercial comedy movie, revealed the director. In an interview on ARY News, Yasir Nawaz appealed the viewers to viewers to support emerging Pakistani cinema.

“The young directors and producers have gained enough experience from dramas but films are new thing for us, specifically for me. There will be need of improvement, there will be ups and downs but we will improve. So, go out and watch Pakistani movies and support Pakistani cinemas,” said Yasir Nawaz.

“I do not claim that Wrong Number will be a different movie, but I am sure that people will enjoy their time,” added Yasir.

Storm in a Teacup’ music festival held in Lahore

Following its triumphant success in 2014, Jamal Rahman, a music producer, yet again presented another edition of independent music festival ‘Storm in a Teacup’, on April 12, 2015 at Peeru’s Cafe Lahore. The festival celebrated and promoted the indie music genre in Pakistan by showcasing a variety of independent musicians and bands from across the country. This year’s extravaganza was an all-day event that brought together the best of Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore’s independent bands.

Saba Imtiaz’s ‘Karachi You Are Killing Me’ to be adopted for Bollywood movie

The Bollywood filmmakers of the upcoming Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur starrer movie “Airlift” have bought the film rights of bestselling novel “Karachi, You’re Killing Me”, written by Pakistani journalist and author Saba Imtiaz. Airlift has been planned as India’s answer to the acclaimed Hollywood film, “Bridget Jones’s Diary.” The book’s author, Saba Imtiaz, is confirmed to closely involved in developing the film’s screenplay. The shooting of the movie will start later this year.

The novel, which chronicles the life of Ayesha Khan, a progressive-thinking journalist in her late twenties, who drinks and smokes, putting her modern attitude in contrast to the city’s orthodox elements, had become a roaring success upon its release. “It’s a comedy of manners in a city with none,” is how the author described her debut novel.

It’s tentatively called “Delhi, You’re Killing Me” and will be entirely set in the Old Delhi environment. The book’s author, Saba Imtiaz, will be closely involved in developing the film’s screenplay.

Confirming this, the film’s producer Vikram Malhotra told Indian news paper Mirror, that he read the book, the very day after he came across a review that described it as a cross between Bridget Jones’s Diary and Diary of a Social Butterfly.

“The story excited me just the way Queen had when Vikas Bahl had first narrated it to me. I have full faith that ‘Karachi….’ would translate into a film that will resonate with today’s audience, especially women as they will see a slice of their lives in it! Work is on in full swing on adapting the book into a film and we will finalize the cast soon,” said Malhotra.

Canada based Indo-Pak band naQsh to release album soon

Canada based Indo-Pak band naQsh is making it’s mark in Pakistani music industry by performing with various Pakistani artists. The band has already performed with  QB, Saeen Zahoor, Adnan Sami and can often be spotted giving interviews to top media outlets in Canada. Currently, naQsh is busy adding the final touches to their debut album which they aim to release soon.

The band was formed in 2007 and comprises bass guitarist Irfan, lead guitarist Imran and singer-songwriter/composer Daksh Kubba. Together, each member brings a different flavor to naQsh, owing to their diverse backgrounds and influences. The band’s sound is best described as experimental fusion rock which incorporates the sensibilities of North Indian and Pakistani melodies with Western harmonies. With their meaningful lyrics, the group wants to create music which is not just pleasant to the ears, but also carries strong socially relevant messages.

The 3rd Hum Awards were held on April 09, 2015 at Dubai World Trade Centre. Mahira Khan and Adnan Malik starrer Sadqay Tumharey won ten awards including Best On Screen Couple and Best New Sensation. The legendary singer Abida Parveen was given the Life Time Achievement Award while Samina Peerzada received Hum Excellence in TV award. The heartthrob Fawad Khan was accredited with Pakistan Ambassador Award. Interestingly, the ARY productions’ blockbuster movie Na Maloom Afraad was also given the Recognition award. Indian singer Sunidi Chauhan also live performed at the event.

The who’s who of Pakistan’s entertainment industry and the best of HUM’s productions’ were competing in 24 categories of television, fashion, music and special awards for the coveted HUM Awards. Sadqay Tumharey topped the chart with ten awards.

Apart from awards, the event also witnessed some sizzling dance performances. Firstly by Feroz Khan and Sajal Ali on few Bollywood tracks. The legendary writer Anwar Maqsood and Faisal Qureshi strongly criticized the choice of songs and stressed to play Pakistani songs fr the next time. Apart from Feroz and Sajal, Ahsan Khan with Sabar Qamar, Sheroz with his wife Syra and Mehwish Hayat aka Billi also gave dance performance in 3rd Hum Awards.

Television nominations for the best of HUM plays were divided into the categories of Best Sitcom, Best Telefilm, Best New Sensation (television), Best Actor Female in Soap, Best Actor Male in Soap, Best Soap, Best Actor (female) in Supporting Role (television), Best Actor (male) in Supporting Role (television) Best Actor in Negative Role (television), Most Impactful Character (television), Best Writer (drama serial) and Best Director (drama serial).

The Network also announced nominees in two popular categories of fashion — Best Male/Female Model’ – and two of music – Best Music Single and Best Music Video.
